What does it cost to fix a burst pipe in Sydney?
Short answer
Published 2026 Sydney estimates for an accessible burst pipe repair range from about $200 to $900, and for an in-wall or under-slab repair from about $800 to $8,000. Business-hours call-out fees sit around $80 to $180, after-hours around $150 to $420. The single biggest cost driver is not the pipe, it is whether the plumber has to open a wall or slab to reach it.
Why we are showing you a range and not a price
We compared four Sydney pricing guides published in 2026. For the same job description they disagree by a factor of four. That is not one of them being wrong. It is that "burst pipe" describes anything from a weeping joint under a sink to a failed main under a concrete slab, and the published guides each assume a different default. Anyone quoting you a single confident number for a job they have not seen is guessing.
What the published guides say
| Accessible / exposed pipe | $200 to $900 |
|---|---|
| In-wall or under-slab repair | $800 to $8,000 |
| Business-hours call-out fee | $80 to $180 |
| After-hours call-out fee | $150 to $420 |
| Business-hours hourly rate | $120 to $220 |
| After-hours hourly rate | $180 to $320 |
| Leak detection / CCTV, when the leak is hidden | $250 to $550 |
Ranges are the span across the sources listed below, all published or updated in 2026, all including GST. They are estimates from pricing guides, not quotes, and several of those guides are published by businesses that also sell the work.
The three things that actually move your number
Access, first and by a distance: an exposed pipe is cut and replaced in under an hour, while the same failure behind tiles adds detection, cutting, repair and making good. Time of day second: after-hours attendance carries both a higher call-out and a higher hourly rate. Water damage third, and it is the one that escalates without limit, because remediation is a separate trade charged on area and drying time.
The cheapest thing you can do costs nothing
Isolate the water at the meter before you call. Every minute a supply pipe runs adds to the volume that has to be extracted and dried, and the drying bill routinely exceeds the plumbing bill. If you cannot isolate it, call immediately regardless of the hour; the after-hours premium is smaller than the damage.
What a fair quote looks like
The call-out fee stated before they leave the depot, not discovered on the invoice. A written quote before any wall or slab is opened. Detection quoted separately if the leak is concealed. Cosmetic make-good named as in or out of scope, because plaster, paint and tiling usually need a different trade. A quote with no disclosed trip fee is the one to walk away from.
Check the licence first
All burst pipe work on water supply or drainage in NSW must be done by a licensed plumber, and the register is free and public. See our guide to checking a NSW trade licence.
